COLUMBIA, Missouri, February 04, 2022–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The Veterans United Foundation celebrated its 10th anniversary by donating an additional $10 million on top of its regular donations to help individuals and organizations nationwide in 2021. In total, the foundation donated more than $20 million throughout the year.

“Improving lives in the communities we serve has always been at the heart of what we do,” said Erik Morse, Chairman of the Board of the Veterans United Foundation. “We are part of these communities. Our employees are excited about the work that nearly 100 organizations are doing and are excited to help expand their services, efforts and missions to reach more people across the country.

On the 10th anniversary of the founding, Veterans United Home Loans employees took a survey and voted for the causes they care about. Mental health and homelessness treatment and awareness for veterans topped the list, while many others are listed below:

  • Education and Youth Service

  • Disaster Relief and Recovery

  • Access to property and adapted housing

  • VUF Scholarships

  • Local programs for youth, families and veterans

  • Social Impact Organizations

“Each of these causes is important to our employees, and this investigation only strengthens the work we do,” Morse said.

The Veterans United Foundation was established in 2011 and is funded by more than 4,100 employees of Veterans United Home Loans, Veterans United Home Loans and its affiliates. More than 90% of employees donate 1% of their salary to the foundation to support the mission. During the $10 million campaign, employees nominated individuals and organizations to receive a portion of the funding.

“The efforts of our employees were able to help 139 people and 93 organizations through this campaign,” Morse said. “This includes projects such as the Welcome Home beautification initiative, improving accessibility and improving the lives of those who served. It has funded Habitat for Humanity efforts to Dallas and the Columbia Center for Urban Agriculture Veterans Urban Farm Project. The largest donation of the foundation’s tenth anniversary and second largest in its history was $1.25 million for True North.”

This donation will help True North improve its non-residential services, hire more staff and expand its ability to serve victims of domestic and sexual violence by developing a new advocacy center.

The foundation impacts military and community charities across the United States.
