LAHORE: President Dr. Arif Alvi has called for the adoption of modern agricultural techniques to increase agricultural productivity to meet the country’s food needs.

Addressing a meeting with farmers in Lahore, he stressed the need to promote the latest technology and information technology tools to ensure availability of agricultural inputs to farmers and reduce production costs.

The President said that the government is focusing on improving farmers, as the prosperity of the agricultural sector is directly linked to the socio-economic development of the country.

He said incentives have been offered to support farmers and reduce their production costs, which has significantly boosted the agricultural yield of major crops over the past year.

Previously, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) raised the indicative credit limits for agricultural finance from banks to farmers to align the amount of finance with agricultural input needs.

The strengthened indicative credit limits for agricultural and non-agricultural production and development loans will directly benefit agricultural borrowers, who will now be able to obtain more credit from banks and, in turn, improve agricultural productivity through proper use of inputs.
