HANAMKONDA: Political heat is building in the former Warangal district with former Congress President Rahul Gandhi set to address a mega town hall meeting on Friday and the ruling TRS to follow him the next day with various minister programs of IT Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao.
Upon the announcement of Rahul Gandhi’s Rythu Sangarshana Sabha on the grounds of the College of Arts and Sciences, several senior Congressional leaders traveled to the district to make the program a success, while criticizing the ruling TRS. TRS party leaders also hold press conferences to counterattack the Congress.
The leaders of the big old party are pinning their hopes on history repeating itself. When Congress President Sonia Gandhi addressed a massive meeting of BC Garjana on the same ground in 2002, the party came to power in then unified Andhra Pradesh. Congress hopes that with Rahul Gandhi addressing Friday’s meeting, the party will issue an encore.
Congress sources say Rahul Gandhi is going to make a major announcement that will benefit the entire agricultural sector in the country.
As a countermeasure, TRS has scheduled an interactive meeting between IT Minister KTR and IT professionals at PJR Garden on Saturday. The meeting will dwell on the expansion of IT businesses including in the former district of Warangal, job opportunities and the overall growth of the state’s economy.
It is said that Rahul Gandhi will demand that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao fulfill his promise to waive agricultural loans up to ₹1 lakh that he promised and provide MSP for food grains produced by farmers. TRS plans to counter it with development by laying the foundation stone for the Kaitex Mega Textile Park and inaugurating Ganesh Textiles Industries.
Congress and TRS leaders are confident that their meetings will give them the much-needed boost in the upcoming Assembly elections.
