Baker Tilly Appoints Theresa Meiners as Environmental, Social and Governance Officer

The appointment comes as the firm unveils a suite of environmental, social and governance (ESG) solutions for its clients and a charge to internally formalize its employee action history.

CHICAGO, April 20, 2022–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Leading CPA advisory firm Baker Tilly US, LLP (Baker Tilly), announces Theresa Meiners, Director and General Counsel, as the first head of ESG and how she manifest inside and outside the organization.

“Theresa is a multidimensional leader who skillfully applies her intelligence and passion to everything she touches,” said Alan Whitman, President and CEO of Baker Tilly. “With her at the helm of ESG, Baker Tilly will continue to have a positive impact on the future of our employees, our customers, our communities and the planet.”

While ESG appears to be the preferred framework for companies to transparently report on their activities that have an impact on the common good, Baker Tilly already has a strong story to tell.

“My challenge is to organize and formalize all the amazing ESG work we are already doing and develop a focused, unified way forward – taking our work to the next level,” Meiners said.

ESG-related elements permeate Baker Tilly and are evident in its overall strategy, its vision to create the CPA consultancy of the future today, and its goal to unleash and amplify talent.

  • Internally, the firm has a mature philosophy of diversity, inclusion and belonging; a history of volunteerism; and ethical and compliant operations, among other evidence points.

  • Externally, the company has a proven track record with clients, from energy, risk and public sector to tax and insurance, and now offers a suite of solutions to help companies build strategies and implement ESG.

In her role as General Counsel, Meiners has a cohesive view of the interoperability of the entire organization. Having these personal relationships with a wide range of experts helps her to “make the connection” on all ESG activities that take place internally and with clients. This ability to collaborate and build momentum for action was evident in his recent experience leading the company’s Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Steering Committee and in developing its strategy and of his plan.
